Plate Tectonics

This is an assortment of links to plate tectonics, geophysics, and seismology resources on the world-wide web. The purpose is not to provide a comprehensive list, but rather to showcase some of the better resources available. If you know of additional information that should be listed here, please send e-mail to geotech@smith.edu.

Wilson Cycle
This site provides a basic overview of the Wilson Cycle.

This Dynamic Earth:  The Story of Plate Tectonics
An online version of the USGS publication This Dynamic Earth: The Story of Plate Tectonics by W. Jacquelyne Kious and Robert I. Tilling.  A PDF version is also available.

Geophysics
This is a useful starting place for resources on geophysicsmaintained by Nobuhiro Furuse in Japan.

Paleogeographic Atlas
Ralph-Walter M&uumlller at the University of Stuttgart in Germany maintains an online paleogeographic atlas using the data from Chris Scotese's Paleomap project.

Paleomap Project
Christopher Scotese's website whose goal  is to illustrate the plate tectonic development of the ocean basins and continents, as well as the changing distribution of land and sea during the past 1100 million years.

Paleomap
The Ocean Drilling Stratigraphic Network at the University of Bremen in Germany has an online program which allows you to generate maps of plate configurations of any age up to 150 Ma.

Plate Motion Calculator
A set of online programs to calculate relative and absolute plate motions written by Kensaku Tamaki at the Ocean Research Institute at the University of Tokyo in Japan.

Plate Reconstructions
A set of Phanerozoic plate reconstructions from Ron Blakey at Northern Arizona University.

Seismology
This is a useful starting place to find resources devoted to seismology and earthquakes maintained by Steve Malone at the University of Washington in Seattle.
